The Life and Torah Consciousness of Jews in the Shtetlach, Towns, and Cities of Poland.
When we refer to the Holocaust, we traditionally refer to the six million souls who perished. But there is another dimension that must be considered-the destruction of Jewish life and culture of pre-war Europe. By learning “what was” we can more fully grasp the magnitude of the Holocaust, how deeply we suffered then and the loss we still feel today.
Through interviews, research, maps, pictures and charts, it conveys the life, inspiration, vitality, and achievements of pre-war Polish Jewry. This book is part of a curriculum developed by the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland, which was founded in 1943 by the Telshe Roshei Yeshiva who had escaped the Holocaust.
Goldy says: “The best part of these books is the first-hand memories of daily life in the Jewish towns of Eastern Europe that we have lost.”
